HAVE COUCH - GUELPH, ONTARIO, CANADA
Inclusive, welcoming and anti-oppression oriented home has lots of space for folks needing a place to crash. During the summer months, the house will have 3 cis-gendered people living in it, two young women and a lad all of whom have varying amounts of experience with professional support work and crisis training.
The house isn’t exactly wheel-chair friendly, however the one small step up to the front door would probably be manageable and allow access to the mainfloor. The main floor has two couches, the kitchen, dining room and powder room… The (unfinished, but somewhat set up) basement has another two, couches plus a queen-sized mattress and laundry facilities. Upstairs is another wash room and bathtub/shower for use and potentially a spare room. There’s always lots of food and cooking going on in the house, so all of us would be more than happy to share what we’ve got and accommodate for most dietary requirements.
Guelph has public transit that can take you anywhere in the city for a $3 fare. There is a grocery store right beside my townhouse complex, and the downtown core is a 15 minute bike ride, 40 minute walk or bus-ride. There’s a YMCA and mall nearby.
I currently do support work and counselling at a youth shelter and am more than happy to help with providing resources for jobs, housing, schooling, counselling services, shelters, OW, ODSP, food banks, getting or replacing ID cards, health services, LGBT* and trans-specific support groups, …etc.
One of my roommates has a car and would probably be happy to pick up somebody from a near-by public location to bring them to our place. Length of stay can be discussed in person.
We’re very tolerant of people’s choices towards drugs, alcohol and smoking, however ask that cigarettes be smoked outside or in the garage and that problematic use of alcohol or drugs be used off-site.
The house is pet-friendly and there is a vet nearby. The house currently has a very friendly puppy and kitten. The backyard isn’t closed in, and there’s a large forest across the street and a huge scenic dog-park a short walk away. We’re happy to share our pet-food if need be.
